John Hourahan, the former premier of Queensland, has died aged 81.
He was born in Adelaide on December 21, 1919 and became the state’s first female premier in 1954.
The Queensland premier was the subject of a major media campaign after being diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2011.
He had been battling the disease since the early 1990s.
Hourigan announced her diagnosis on January 20, 2017, just hours before she died in hospital.
